Pervomaisky Department Store

28 July 2026

Pervomaisky Shopping Center, 9th Park Street, 62, Moscow, Russia

## History and features

The department store was opened in **1969**. It was built back in 1967, and one of the architects was Mikhail Moshinsky, who himself lived in Izmailovo and understood the needs of local residents well.

It was an innovative solution for its time: a lot of different things were gathered under one roof at once. In addition to shops (fabrics, clothing, shoes, household chemicals, perfumes, carpets, watches, sports goods, radio and photographic goods, tableware, souvenirs), there was a food department, a culinary, a cafe and a restaurant, as well as ateliers and hairdressers. The townspeople walked in the spacious courtyard, and there were also festivals and fairs. Pervomaisky was also one of the first buildings in Moscow to have escalators installed.

In terms of area, it was one of the largest self—service retail establishments in the capital: the total area was about 29 thousand square meters, of which about 10 thousand were occupied by a trading floor. Up to 100,000 purchases were made here per day.

For a long time, Pervomaisky remained one of the largest shopping malls in Moscow. In 2020, the building underwent a major renovation, after which it reopened to the public.

Unfortunately, the history of the building is coming to an end. In 2025, it was acquired by the FGC group of companies. The facility was declared an emergency, and large retail outlets are already operating nearby, so they decided to get rid of the old department store. A residential complex is planned to be built in its place.

Now the building is closed, and, unfortunately, it is gradually falling into disrepair: graffiti is appearing, some of the property has been removed.

If you pass by, you can take a look to see how the interior and old signage have been preserved until the facility has been dismantled.
